Medical Coder (ISB)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Medical Coder to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses, ensuring compliance with current coding regulations, and supporting the medical billing process. You will work closely with healthcare providers and billing teams to ensure accurate and timely submissions of claims. Responsibilities:

  • Extracting Information from Patient Records: You will review patient records to collect essential details like diagnoses and procedures to assign the correct codes.
  • Checking for Missing Information: You will ensure all necessary information is present in patient documents, contacting healthcare staff if anything is missing.
  • Assigning Codes (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ASA): You will assign proper codes for procedures, services, diagnoses, and anesthesia, using systems like CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ASA.
  • Assigning APC and DRG Codes: You will also assign APC codes for outpatient services and DRG codes for inpatient services to ensure correct billing.
  • Ensuring Accuracy and Grammar: You will check documents for typos and ensure they are grammatically correct to maintain professional standards.
  • Performing Chart Audits: You will review patient charts to verify that the right codes are applied and ensure accuracy in billing.
  • Advising and Training Staff: You may provide guidance and training to physicians and staff on proper coding practices and procedures.
  • Reporting Technical Issues: If there are issues with coding software or equipment, you will inform your supervisor so problems can be resolved.
  • Ensuring Compliance with Guidelines: You will ensure that all coding practices follow legal guidelines and internal policies to avoid errors and ensure proper reimbursement.

 

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably in healthcare or medical coding.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in medical coding, specifically with CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ASA, APC, and DRG coding.
  • Proficiency in medical coding systems such as CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ASA, APC, and DRG. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software is required.
  • Strong understanding of medical coding guidelines, policies, and healthcare regulations, including HIPAA compliance and other industry standards.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to extract relevant information from patient records accurately and ensure all documents are grammatically correct and free from errors.
  • Experience in performing chart audits and identifying discrepancies, along with the ability to advise and train physicians and healthcare staff on medical coding procedures when required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, staff, and supervisors.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues related to coding discrepancies, equipment malfunctions, or software problems.
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
